While they wait for Arshdeep Singh to arrive, Kent has signed Australian quick Wes Agar for four LV= Insurance County Championship games. Agar, a 26-year-old right-arm fast bowler who has played in two ODIs for his nation, bowled for Australia A against New Zealand A earlier this month and dismissed three of the opposition’s top-order hitters on route to innings statistics of 4 for 56.
Agar has collected 41 wickets in 11 first-class games during the last two years.
The Bradman Young Cricketer of the Year award, given to Australia’s most promising first-class player under the age of 24, was given to him in 2020.
Before Arshdeep Singh arrival in June, Agar will be eligible to participate in games up until May 21. These games will include home contests against Hampshire and Essex, as well as away contests against Middlesex at Lord’s and Surrey at The Kia Oval.

In their season opener last week, Kent defeated Northamptonshire. This week’s Division One match between Warwickshire and Kent was one of several Championship games that were postponed by rain on Friday’s second morning. The hosts scored 367 for 3 overnight after being sent in to bat, punishing a weak attack that was missing injured seamers Nathan Gilchrist and Grant Stewart. The New Zealand fast Matt Quinn also suffered an early injury during his new-ball spell before coming back into play after the lunch break.
The director of cricket for Kent, Paul Downton, said of Wes: “He bowls a ‘heavy ball’ and is a wicket-taking bowler who is fascinating to watch. He provides us with a point of differentiation that will enhance our primary bowling unit at the club and support us in our goal of taking 20 wickets in each of our upcoming four Championship games.
Arshdeep was recently recruited by Kent for five Championship games between June 11 and July 28. He and Agar are the third international player at the club, joining South African spin-bowling all-rounder George Linde and Australian pace bowler Kane Richardson, who will compete in the Vitality Blast.
