Cameron Green, playing for Australia against India, scores his first Test century at Ahmedabad.

Since making his international debut in late 2020, young Cameron Green has performed exceptionally well in the longest format of the game while displaying a great deal of promise. The Australian team lost the first two Tests of the present Border-Gavaskar Trophy in his absence, but ever since he returned from injury in the Indore Test, the visiting side has appeared much stronger and is currently in the driver’s seat in the fourth Test in Ahmedabad.

Significantly, the 23-year-old scored his first Test century when the Indian bowlers appeared lost in the middle. The West Australian cricketer required some time to find his rhythm, but once he did, he played his natural game and finally reached triple digits.

Yet, this is not the first time Green has played a significant role for Australia with the bat. Despite having a broken finger during the Christmas Day Test against South Africa, the all-rounder scored a significant half-century for his team. He was usually enjoying a good start but was never able to convert it into a large score. But, in the fourth Test against India, he overcame the hurdles and played a mature knock despite Australia losing 2-1 in the series.

In the fourth Test, Usman Khawaja and Cameron Green made Australia appear invincible.

Together with Cameron Green, Usman Khawaja, the opening batsman, also played outstanding cricket in the middle. The visiting squad were under strain after losing Travis Head and Marnus Labuschange in short succession, but Khawaja alleviated all of that by playing intelligent cricket. Australia are now fully in the driver’s seat on Day 2 of the fourth Test match after he has scored a magnificent century.

Indian players are now attempting to qualify for the finals of the World Test Championship (WTC) and are hoping for a great return. With Sri Lanka performing well against New Zealand, India’s hopes of qualifying are in jeopardy, which is not a positive omen for the Rohit Sharma-led squad.
