Bumrah completes 10 years, ‘going against assumptions’

On January 23, 2026, Indian bowler Jasprit Bumrah celebrated his tenth year in international cricket. In an emotional Instagram post, Bumrah commemorated the milestone by looking back on ten years of perseverance, triumphs, and setbacks.

In January 2016, the right-armer made his debut for his country against Australia in Sydney. He finished with statistics of 2/40 in his allotted 10 overs, removing Steve Smith for his first wicket. Many critics at the time questioned his credibility at the highest level and his unconventional bowling action. In honour of the event ten years later, Bumrah posted a video compilation of his career highlights, including his first wicket and India’s successful 2024 T20 World Cup campaign, in which he won Player of the Tournament.

He gave his family credit in his statement for keeping him resilient and grounded throughout his career. Images from the triumph parades in Mumbai and Barbados after India’s T20 World Cup victory were also included in the post.

Ten years of pursuing the child’s goal of falling in love with a sport that gave him a sense of aliveness that nothing else in the world could. With the love and support of family and God, the journey of defying presumptions, opinions, and perceptions and maintaining the belief endures. He baba ji mehraan bhariyaan hath rakheen he waheguruji da shukr eda. On his post, he added, “Satnam waheguru.”
