As he only plays T20Is for the Men in Blue, the attacking Indian hitter has been spending a lot of time on the domestic circuit while taking a sabbatical from international activity. In the current Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025–26, he led Punjab to the quarterfinals as captain. The star batsman took three wickets for Punjab and scored 86 runs.
Abhishek has already established himself as a legend on the global stage. He has amassed several significant scores since making his T20I debut in 2024, including India’s greatest individual T20I score of 135 off 54 balls against England. With 931 points from the innings, he shot to the top of the ICC T20I batting rankings, a historic accomplishment that highlights his influence in the shortest format.
The left-hander’s next Twenty20 International encounter will be a five-match series against New Zealand, which will begin in Nagpur on January 21. It would be vital for the left-handed opener to maintain his form and assist India in defending their championship as the T20 World Cup 2026 draws near. The Amritsar native will be pushing himself to meet the demands of the millions of supporters and the Indian team.
