Rishabh Pant out of series, replacement named

On Sunday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India announced that wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant will miss the three-match series against New Zealand. Pant reported discomfort in his right lateral abdomen area while batting in the net session on the eve of the inaugural ODI at the BCA Stadium, Vadodara.

MRI scans and discussions with specialists led the BCCI Medical Team to diagnose the cricketer with an Oblique Muscle Tear. This side strain kept him out of the ODI series. Official media releases from the board verified it.

“Rishabh Pant was immediately MRI-scanned, and the BCCI Medical Team discussed his clinical and radiological findings with an expert. Pant has an oblique muscle tear and will miss the ODI Series, the report said.

Members choose Rishabh Pant successor

Ajit Agarkar’s Men’s Senior Selection Committee chose Dhruv Jurel to replace Rishabh Pant for the full series as a like-for-like substitute. Jurel will now be the backup wicketkeeper in the original squad, while KL Rahul will be the chosen wicketkeeper under Shubman Gill.

India’s NZ ODI squad update

Shubman Gill (C), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul (WK), Shreyas Iyer (VC), Washington Sundar, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohd Siraj, Harshit Rana, Prasidh Krishna, Kuldeep Yadav, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Arshdeep Singh, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jur
