Multan Sultans’ former owner drops auction plans

Ali Khan Tareen, the previous owner of the Multan Sultans, has said in a stunning change of events at the Pakistan Super League 2026 franchise auction that he will not participate in the bidding process for the new teams that will be added to the league.

According to the Pakistan Cricket Board’s initial plans to broaden the league’s scope, the PSL is expected to grow with the addition of two new teams. The number of participating teams will rise from six to eight under this system.

Shortly before the sale, Tareen, the former Multan Sultans franchise owner, posted a social media confirmation of his choice. He was anticipated to be one of the top bidders at the auction, so his news caught everyone off guard. Tareen clarified in his speech that his relationship with the PSL has been more than just business or team ownership.

“After giving it some thought, my family and I have chosen not to take part in the PSL franchise auction today. Owning a cricket team was never the only aspect of our tenure with the Multan Sultans. South Punjab was at issue. about providing a voice to an area that has been neglected for far too long. “Everything we built was motivated by that,” he wrote.

While implying that he might return as an owner, particularly if Multan becomes available again, he went on to say that he will still enjoy the league as a spectator even though he won’t be an owner.

“I must return to PSL for the same reason if I do. My heart is in South Punjab. It’s home. I’ll be in the stands this year. celebrating with the supporters and encouraging the players. And we’ll be prepared for the sale of the Multan team. Best wishes to each and every bidder. “May the owner who speaks the loudest win!” he said.

After careful consideration, my family and I have decided not to participate in today’s PSL franchise auction.

Our time with Multan Sultans was never just about owning a cricket team. It was about South Punjab. About giving a voice to a region that had been overlooked for too…

PCB will handle the Multan Sultans.

After a protracted and acrimonious conflict with the PSL management, Tareen departed the squad last year. After that, the PCB will run the team for the next season. Following the conclusion of the 2026 season, the franchise is scheduled to be sold.
