Ellyse Perry Replacement Questioned

According to former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra, Sayali Satghare won’t be Ellyse Perry‘s exact successor. For personal reasons, Perry has pulled out of the upcoming WPL season.

Although Satghare is an all-round player, Chopra said that Perry’s ability to perform under duress for Royal Challengers Bengaluru was far more impressive than the 25-year-old Indian all-rounder’s.

“Ellyse Perry will not be attending. In fact, RCB has suffered a serious setback. Perry has stated that she will not be attending the WPL, which is set to begin in the first week of January. Perry’s absence has been a little setback for RCB, who have been a winning team. Sayali Satghare has been retained as a substitute. In a video posted on his YouTube channel, Chopra said, “It’s the same skill set, but she cannot be the same player because Ellyse Perry skill level is very, very different.”

The well-known analyst added that Annabel Sutherland will be missed by the Delhi Capitals. He said that Sutherland’s successor, Alana King, is not as good at batting as her Australian all-rounder teammate, particularly in 20-over cricket.

“Annabel Sutherland has been replaced by Alana King for the Delhi Capitals. Once more, she is not a substitute for Sutherland. Sutherland, batting is gun batting, and the speed is medium. Alana King is a good spinner who can bat, but she’s not a very good hitter. ODIs, well, T20s, are 50/50. Despite having a fantastic World Cup, it was unsold for some reason. Because Ellyse Perry and Sutherland are great players, I think both teams will appear a little weaker without them,” he continued.

In 2024 and 2025, Ellyse Perry was the RCB’s top run scorer.

Ellyse Perry has scored 972 runs at a strike rate of 132.96 and claimed 14 wickets at an economy rate of 8.25 in the 25 games she has played for RCB over the course of three seasons. On January 9, the RCB will play the two-time champion Mumbai Indians in the WPL 2026 opener.
