BCCI Dismisses Gambhir Sacking Reports

Devajit Saikia, the secretary of the BCCI, has denied the persistent media allegations of Gautam Gambhir’s dismissal as head coach of Team India. It had previously been revealed that the board had deemed Gambhir ineffective, particularly in Test cricket, following the Indian team’s away series losses to Australia and their whitewashing by South Africa and New Zealand.

Notably, there were media reports confirming that Gambhir will remain India’s coach just in white-ball forms, with someone else taking charge for Test cricket.

VVS Laxman, the head of the Centre of Excellence, was reportedly the front-runner for the position, but the former Indian cricketer rejected it, as he has done in the past. Saikia has now refuted the allegations as well.

“This news is completely inaccurate. This news is entirely hypothetical. The news is also being flashed by a few highly reputable news outlets. It’s not true at all. BCCI rejects right away. No matter what people think, BCCI has not done anything. Saikia, as cited by Times Now, stated, “This is someone’s fantasy; there is no truth in it, and I cannot say anything other than that this is factually incorrect and baseless news.”

India will announce their New Zealand ODI team.

For the forthcoming series against New Zealand and the subsequent T20 World Cup 2026, Gambhir is expected to be the Indian team’s coach. It is anticipated that the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee would meet on Sunday, January 4, to announce the team for the three-match ODI series against the BlackCaps.

Wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan is expected to return to the ODI team after more than two years, taking the place of his Under-19 batchmate Rishabh Pant, if the reports are accurate. However, following a potentially fatal injury sustained during the Australia series, vice skipper Shreyas Iyer might possibly be making a return to professional cricket.
