Fans are ecstatic about Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma‘s return to the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025–2026. Fans are eager to witness the two modern-day greats play, either live or via streaming, as they are scheduled to represent Delhi and Mumbai, respectively.
Fans would not be able to watch either Kohli’s or Rohit’s matches on television or online, despite the star power involved, which raises concerns about the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) broadcasting choices.
Virat will play for Delhi against Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat in Bengaluru, while Rohit will play for Mumbai against Sikkim and Uttarakhand in Jaipur. Both players are making their first domestic appearances in the match; Rohit is participating in the Vijay Hazare Trophy for the first time since 2018, and Kohli is making his comeback after almost 15 years. The BCCI’s edict encouraging centrally contracted players to play domestic cricket when not on national duty is what prompted their involvement.
Will matches for the Vijay Hazare Trophy featuring Rohit Sharma or Virat Kohli be televised by the BCCI?
Logistical constraints are the main cause of the lack of broadcast. All 38 teams compete concurrently in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, with 19 games taking place on a single day. The BCCI only telecasts a small number of matches during domestic competitions like the Ranji Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, as is customary.
Only two locations—the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot and the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad—have broadcast facilities put up for the forthcoming season. Notably, live telecasting is only available for games played at these venues’ principal grounds. Games that take place at “B” grounds or other locations are not featured.
Since Kohli’s Delhi matches are being played at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru and Rohit’s Mumbai matches are planned in Jaipur, neither of these locations qualifies as broadcast-enabled venues. Additionally, because of security concerns raised by the Karnataka government, all Vijay Hazare matches in Bengaluru have been moved from the M Chinnaswamy Stadium to the CoE. The CoE matches will take place without both broadcast infrastructure and spectators.
Last-minute alterations have been reported, though. After it was established that Kohli will play, the Ranji Trophy match between Delhi and Railways was added to the broadcast schedule earlier this year. Although there is a remote chance, the BCCI has not formally confirmed that it will change its existing broadcast schedule for the group-stage matches between Rohit and Kohli.
The matches will be broadcast in Ahmedabad.
