A new compensation plan has been agreed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), bringing match costs for domestic women cricket players on level with those of their male counterparts. The ruling marks a significant advancement in the board’s efforts to achieve pay fairness.
The BCCI Apex Council meeting on Sunday approved the updated pay structure, which is an expansion of the board’s 2022 equal pay policy.
Equal match fees for India’s senior men’s and women’s national teams were announced at the time by the BCCI. The BCCI has addressed a long-standing disparity in remuneration for women players at the state and grassroots levels by extending pay parity into domestic cricket with this most recent ruling.
Women domestic cricket players who play one-day and multi-day matches will now receive INR 50,000 per day under the new structure, provided they are included in the starting lineup. Reserves and non-playing players would get INR 25,000 every game. Players in the playing XI will receive INR 25,000 every match in the T20 format, while reserves will receive INR 12,500.
Compared to the previous system, which paid senior women cricket players INR 20,000 per game in the playing XI and INR 10,000 for those on the bench, this is a significant increase. In fact, the increase is equivalent to a 2.5-fold increase in match fees for all formats.
The updated framework also includes junior women’s cricket players.
The updated structure has also been extended to junior women’s cricket players. Players in the playing XI will now receive INR 25,000 per day in junior 50-over and multi-day contests, while reserves will receive INR 12,500. The match fees for junior T20 matches have been changed to INR 6,250 for non-playing players and INR 12,500 for members of the playing XI.
This decision follows India’s historic victory in November 2025 at the Women’s ODI World Cup, where the senior women’s team won their first-ever home World Cup. The BCCI is eager to invest in the domestic structure in order to maintain success and build on the momentum created by that accomplishment.
