Babar Azam, the star batsman for Pakistan, continued to struggle in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2025–26 on Wednesday night, scoring yet another low score to his mounting list of setbacks. When Babar Azam was removed for just nine runs while playing for the Sydney Sixers against the Adelaide Strikers, some members of the Sydney Cricket Ground’s home crowd let out loud jeers.
The right-handed hitter was one of the Sydney Sixers’ most prominent foreign acquisitions when he arrived in Australia, and the competition was viewed as a vital opportunity to boost his confidence and advance his cause before the 2026 T20 World Cup. But thus far, the campaign has fallen short of expectations. He started his BBL season with a pitiful two against the Perth Scorchers, and in the second game, he recorded again another single-digit score.
Babar Azam smashed a boundary off the second ball he encountered against the Adelaide Strikers.
But the batter was having trouble rotating the strike, so he tried a short-arm jab off Luke Wood, but instead smacked the ball right to Matthew Short, who made a straightforward catch.
Loud jeering echoed across the stadium as Babar Azam made his way back to the pavilion after scoring nine of ten deliveries. However, it’s still unclear if Babar Azam was the target of the jeers or if the crowd was responding to the Strikers’ joy.

With Josh Philippe leading the way with 46 off 28 balls and Jack Edwards chipping in with 32, the Sydney Sixers ultimately scored 159/9 in their 20 overs. Adelaide’s bowling effort was disciplined, highlighted by Luke Wood (3/26) and Jamie Overton (2/22).
The Strikers lost wickets frequently in their reply, but they managed to chase down the score in 19.2 overs. Jamie Overton finished with an outstanding all-around effort that earned him the Player of the Match title, while Liam Scott anchored the innings with a 51.
