Every successful guy has a woman behind him, so the saying goes. However, a number of women helped Onkar Tarmale by lending him INR 3 million so that he could travel to Tripura to improve his cricket. Now that Onkar, a teenage cricket player from the little town of Shere in Thane’s Shahapur, was purchased by Sunrisers Hyderabad at the IPL 2026 Auction, the financial assistance is paying off in multiple ways.
Tukaram Tarmale, Omkar’s father, reaffirmed the sacrifices made by the whole family and those watching him from the sidelines in order to witness their favourite player succeed in cricket. Kavya Maran, SRH co-owner and an uncapped fast bowler, raised her paddle just in time to purchase the young player for INR 30 lakh.
The family burst into ecstasy when Onkar Tarmale name appeared in the accelerated round.
“He used to travel to Delhi and play around. I had to send Onkar to Tripura even though my financial situation had gotten worse. Coincidentally, I requested 3 lakh rupees from the local ladies who belonged to a self-help group, and we were able to send Onkar Tarmale with that sum. In a widely shared video, Tukaram was heard saying, “There, he gave a top-level performance, so the coaches in Tripura asked if I could handover Onkar Tarmale to them and they would nurture him further, but I clearly said ‘no’.”
“I asked the Kalyan local coaches I knew. My youngster has the courage to succeed in cricket, they informed me. After that, he moved to Mumbai and began travelling back and forth from Tripura. However, he quickly took off for the Maharashtra Premier League, which is where his career truly took off,” Tukaram continued.
After the father and son experienced financial difficulties, the father taught his younger son to work hard and focus on being a very successful person. Onkar Tarmale took the lessons to heart and went on to demonstrate his abilities away from the spotlight in the domestic circuit. However, this did not go unnoticed, as SRH recognised his skill and awarded him an IPL contract.
“He has also put a lot of effort into his cricket game. I used to tell him that if you put so much effort into your profession, your son won’t have to work as hard as we have. And I’m thrilled that Onkar Tarmale has rewarded all of our sacrifices and diligence today. I just want to express that,” the father said.
