At Tuesday’s IPL 2026 mini-auction in Abu Dhabi, Rajasthan wicketkeeper-batter Mukul Choudhary was purchased by the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for INR 2.6 crore. The 21-year-old’s worth was further increased when he entered the auction following a game-winning effort against Delhi in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Many were surprised by Mukul Choudhary price tag because he was still in the early phases of his domestic career. Given that he has only played senior domestic cricket for two years, a bid of INR 2.6 crore was a significant indication of his potential. Mumbai Indians (MI) quickly joined the battle despite having a small budget after Rajasthan Royals (RR) started the bidding at his basic price of INR 30 lakh. LSG entered the race after MI left at INR 90 lakh. LSG was able to get the young wicketkeeper-batter after RR withdrew after spending INR 2.4 crore.
Mukul Choudhary, who was born in Rajasthan, moved to Jaipur a few years ago after attracting the interest of junior selectors.
Alongside Ashok and Kartik Sharma, who both signed IPL contracts this season, he trained at the Aravali Cricket Academy. In January 2023, Mukul Choudhary made his first-class debut against Chhattisgarh. However, he has had a slow start in red-ball cricket, amassing 51 runs at an average of 12.75 in three games, with a top score of 45.
However, Mukul Choudhary has really excelled in the shorter formats. In October 2023, he made his T20 debut against Jharkhand, opening the innings with 35 runs. He has so far amassed 210 runs at an outstanding average of 42 in seven Twenty20 outings, including an undefeated 62. On the day of the auction, Mukul scored a half-century while playing for Rajasthan against Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Additionally, Mukul Choudhary was a star performer for Rajasthan’s Under-23 and Men’s State A Trophy teams. In the competition, he scored 617 runs at an incredible average of 102.83, demonstrating his maturity and consistency. He has steadily improved into a dependable finisher and is renowned for his clean ball striking.
