With the 2019 Bangladesh Premier League, Bangladesh Test captain Najmul Hossain Shanto hopes to make a comeback to the national team in the shortest format. Not a regular in the Bangladesh T20 lineup, Shanto will be leading the Rajshahi Warriors in the BPL. He argued that the framework must have powerful knocks rather than focussing on individual achievements.
When asked about the prospect of a return in the T20 format, Najmul responded to media, “If I perform (in BPL) why not? “For me, the BPL is very important and if I do well here, I can send out a strong message,” he explained.
Selectors and coaching staff are on the call. I have an obligation to play cricket well. They will pick me if I accomplish that and they think I’m capable. Impact in Twenty20 cricket is more important than score, and the key is how much you can affect the game. My goal is to have an impacting innings each time I bat. My role is to score runs and support the squad.
Leading the Test team, Najmul, stated that he is eager to take on the challenge presented by a packed Test calendar in 2026. During his tenure, Bangladesh played six Test matches in 2025, winning four of them, drawing one, and losing one.
I don’t really want to think about the busy schedule you stated,” Najmul remarked.
Bangladesh is scheduled to play at least 12 Test matches in 2026, including trips to South Africa and Australia. Najmul stated, “I think this year has gone well,” as he promoted the Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh’s (CWAB) All-Stars game on December 16 to celebrate Victory Day in Bangladesh.
When you think about it, it hasn’t been too horrible. In the second Test match in Sri Lanka, however, we had the opportunity to play a little better cricket. I firmly believe that our current side ought to have performed better in cricket. Still, there are a lot of games in the upcoming season. We always want to play a lot of games, especially Test matches.
The reason for this is that we want more Test matches—more matches in all formats, actually. Therefore, having opportunity to play is a happy thing. Gradually, planning has begun, and I believe we will proceed with a much more defined plan once the BPL concludes,” he continued.
