Waqar Younis, a legendary fast bowler, has praised ILT20’s remarkable expansion and its crucial role in fostering cricket throughout the Gulf nations.
During a recent media event held in Dubai, the legendary cricket player from Pakistan, who has been following the league from its launch in 2023, gave his thoughts on its quick development.
“Normally, leagues take years to develop, but the DP World ILT20 has expanded significantly in just three years, and we are currently in our fourth season. Players from Saudi Arabia and Kuwait have already joined, and I have no doubt that other nations will follow suit. By encouraging greater engagement, cricket will flourish here, he claimed.
Waqar Younis mentioned Khuzaima Tanveer, an all-rounder for the Desert Vipers and a UAE international, when talking about up-and-coming fast bowlers. His 4/10 against the Gulf Giants on Friday night was the highest score ever by a bowler from the United Arab Emirates in ILT20 history.
Tanveer’s grasp of the game of bowling has truly astonished me. To be honest, I didn’t think he would bowl so well, but I can see he has something special as I watch the ball move as it leaves his hand. He praised Tanvir, saying, “He can bat too, making him a valuable all-rounder who can change games.”
Waqar Younis also praised other young players, including as batter Alishan Sharafu and bowler Ajay Kumar of the Abu Dabhi Knight Riders.
“The talent is unquestionably there, even though they need more time to grow and play in the T20 format.”
Waqar Younis discussed worldwide celebrities, including Naseem Shah of the Desert Vipers.
Although Naseem is an excellent player, his form varies. He has the opportunity to establish himself once more at the DP World ILT20, where performances are eagerly anticipated.
