Ryan ten Doeschate, India’s assistant coach, has expressed support for Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav despite their recent lacklustre batting performances. As they enter the third Twenty20 International in Dharamsala, their total score from the first two games is 21, with Shubman scoring 4 and 0 and Suryakumar 12 and 5.
Ten Doeschate revealed that he was impressed by Gill’s “change in mentality” in the later part of the most recent Australian white-ball series. Additionally, he stated that he would not be overanalysing Gill’s dismissals in this series and provided justification for each one.
“After the Australian tour, Shubman, I noticed some positive indications of a shift in mindset. In this series, I wouldn’t put too much stock in these two dismissals. We wanted the players to attack the powerplay in the first game, but it wasn’t a fantastic wicket at Cuttack, so I’ll excuse him for that.
According to India Today, ten Doeschate said, “I thought he got a good ball today that can happen when you’re short on form.”
The former Netherlands all-rounder stated that the management has the same level of faith in Suryakumar as they do in Gill’s potential and demonstrated skill.
However, we are also aware of his [Gill’s] class. His IPL record shows that he has scored between 700 and 800 runs. We have faith in his class and think he will do well. The same is true for Suryakumar. We’ve come a long way with our planning and team setup, as you indicated with regard to the leadership responsibilities. He continued, “I have complete faith that both of them will come good at the appropriate time for us.”
With Quinton de Kock and Ottneil Baartman leading the resistance, India, who had taken the lead in the first Twenty20 International in Cuttack by 101 runs, lost to the Proteas in Mullanpur by 51 runs after being bowled out for 162 while chasing 214. On December 14, the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamsala will host the third game.
