Wasim Akram Criticises IPL’s Extended Schedule

Wasim Akram, a former cricket player for Pakistan, has made fun of the length of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Akram made fun of the duration of the biggest T20 league in the globe while promoting the Pakistan Super League (PSL), saying that even when a person’s children grow up, the competition never ends.

In the 2011–12 season, the Australian competition had merely 31 games, but in the years that followed, it grew to 61 games. Over the last two seasons, Cricket Australia (CA) has, however, lowered the tournament’s number to 44 games.

The BBL ends in about 40 days, which is the same amount of time as the PSL, whereas the IPL lasts for two months. However, the IPL has 74 matches, whereas the PSL has 60. It is important to note that there are presently ten clubs in the IPL, eight in the BBL, and six in the PSL, which inevitably impacts the total amount of games.

Wasim Akram also gave the example of the Big Bash League (BBL).

At a PSL promotional event at the Lord’s Cricket Ground, Wasim Akram remarked, “Bacche bade ho jate hain, woh league khatam hi nahi hoti (Kids grow up, but the league just keeps running).”

The league’s strongest feature is that it lasts only 34–35 days, with the possibility of a bit longer next year. The BBL is a perfect illustration. They had two and a half months at first. After four or five years, they understood it wasn’t working. They now last for roughly 40 days. That’s all. “That’s the PSL’s beauty,” he continued.

Additionally, Wasim Akram asserted that the PSL had more skilled domestic players than the IPL. The former fast bowler, who is now a well-known commentator throughout the world, said that there is a common misconception that India is better at producing high-caliber, polished players, whereas Pakistan routinely produces more naturally endowed talent.

“The talent, of course. When I speak with people abroad, they all mention bowling in the IPL and other leagues. They claim that the PSL is unquestionably the best in terms of talent as we have quality rather than quantity,” Wasim Akram stated.
