In his reflections on his experience playing in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), former captain Babar Azam called the league the best place to find true potential. The PSL has given up-and-coming Pakistani talent a stage on which to display their abilities since its beginnings. As the PSL’s renowned roadshow took the stage at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground this year, the enthusiasm reached new heights.
The league has produced memorable T20 moments from both domestic and foreign players. Making the most of the chances the PSL provided to develop as a cricket player, Babar started his career with Islamabad United in 2016 and subsequently represented Karachi Kings and Peshawar Zalmi.
“The experience and the voyage have been excellent. “I should learn from the top players as much as I can” was all I could think about when I was a new player in the PSL. During the roadshow panel discussion, Babar stated, “I shared the dressing room with many big players, and it helped me a lot as a person and as a cricketer.”
At the time, I tried to approach and speak with well-known cricket players like Chris Gayle, [Andre] Russell, Mahela Jayawardene, and [Kumar] Sangakkara. They have a lot of expertise and a long history, so it was really helpful to me to share a dressing room with them and watch how they talk and teach us,” he continued.
Babar is without a doubt one of the great hitters Pakistan has produced over the years.
Even if the cricket community today appreciates his genius, Babar acknowledged the PSL’s pivotal role in his early growth. Looking back on his ascent, he said the league helped mould his style and described it as the ideal platform for up-and-coming players.
“Means a lot.” It served as a platform for me as a child. As an experienced player, I now counsel young players to seize this chance, develop as players, and absorb as much knowledge as they can,” Babar stated.
With the addition of two new franchises, the PSL is poised to take a significant step forward even before the 2019 season begins. Pakistan cricket will have a better opportunity of discovering future superstars from the league thanks to this expansion, which will provide more possibilities for up-and-coming talent.
