India has surpassed England as the “trendsetters” of international cricket, according to Phil Salt. Notably, since 2024, India has won the Asia Cup, the Champions Trophy, and the T20 World Cup.
He described India’s resounding 10-wicket triumph over the Men in Blue in the T20 World Cup 2022 before praising their self-transformation.
We defeated India in the [2022] World Cup semifinal in Australia, and as we had been for a few years, we were unquestionably setting the standard for the international game. That night’s performance was amazing. Because Alex Hales and Jos Buttler were so vicious at the top, I was batting at [No.] three and didn’t even get in. That night, nothing could stop us.
Phil Salt said on the RCB Podcast, “That performance was the result of many years of working in the right direction.”
Phil Salt then considered how India dominated England in the 2024 T20 World Cup semi-final in Guyana. In closing, he expressed his hope that England would soon reclaim the top spot.
However, I believe that since then, India has changed and is now at the forefront of the global game, setting trends. It was demonstrated once more in that World Cup semifinal in Guyana. They would have been severely beaten on that day, particularly at that location. We’ll hopefully be back on top in the not-too-distant future, but the terrain is continually shifting,” Phil Salt continued.
With 272 rating points, India is presently leading the ICC Men’s T20I standings. India has won all nine of its previous T20I series (or events), with their most recent loss occurring in 2023.
The five-match series against South Africa at home is their next task. In order to get ready for the T20 World Cup, which they will co-host next year, India will play five Twenty20 Internationals in January against the Proteas and New Zealand.
