Venkatesh Prasad, a former cricket player for India, was elected as the Karnataka State Cricket Association’s (KSCA) new president on Sunday, December 7.
He defeated KN Shanth Kumar, the opposition candidate, to win the KSCA president. He received 749 votes to Kumar’s 558.
Prasad was thrilled with the victory and thinks it will be beneficial for the return of high-profile cricket to the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in addition to being personal. Since the stampede occurred on June 4 during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL triumph parade here, the historic venue has not hosted any elite matches.
“Above all, this is a triumph for the game of cricket. Second, according to ESPNcricinfo, Prasad stated, “This is a victory for all the members who wanted a change, all the people who wanted international cricket to return to the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.”

Anil Kumble and Javagal Srinath, his former teammates from Karnataka and India, had provided Prasad with a great deal of support prior to the elections. Along with everyone else who helped him win, he thanked the two. The 56-year-old promised in his manifesto to revitalise IPL and international matches at one of the most famous sites in Indian cricket in order to restore the association’s allure.
“The only reason we are sitting here is because of everyone who has helped us, believed in us, and stood by us no matter what. They shared the members’ faith in us and believed in our mission and cause. Whatever we have stated in our manifesto will be put into action. So, I want to thank everyone for this chance. According to the Deccan Herald, Prasad stated, “And I am sure we are going to make sure that we are going to make sure that we do everything for the game.”
For those who are unaware, Chinnaswamy was disqualified from hosting the Women’s World Cup in 2025 and was not considered for the Men’s T20 World Cup in 2026. In addition to playing their home games here, RCB is in negotiations with the Maharashtra Cricket Association to hold their IPL 2026 matches in Pune’s Gahunje Stadium.
