Shubman Gill was fired up when he landed in Bhubaneswar. Around 9 p.m., the India T20I vice-captain, who is the full-time captain in Test matches and ODIs otherwise, arrived in the State Capital following a tiring day of travel. After missing the two Tests and three ODIs against the visiting South African team, he is expected to make some form of comeback in international cricket. He is eager to leave, as Gautam Gambhir stated.
Shubman was first selected on a conditional basis for the five-match Twenty20 series that began on December 9 in Cuttack. Recently, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the T20I team and stated that Gill’s availability is “Subject to fitness clearance from BCCI COE.”
As of right now, Shubman has fully healed from the neck injury he sustained during last month’s opening Test match against South Africa at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. And after spending a few days at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru lately, Gill was able to return to full fitness, according to a December 3 Cricbuzz report.
Gill received the all-clear from the BCCI medical team after fielding and batting at the CoE.
Gambhir himself verified that Shubman is totally healthy and prepared for international participation. “Shubman is prepared to begin, yes. He was chosen because of this. The India coach declared during Saturday night’s third and final ODI in Visakhapatnam that “he is fit, fine, and hungry to go.”
For the game, the majority of the players travelled to Bhubaneswar. On Sunday morning, a chartered flight carrying a large number of the South Africa and India squad members arrived from Visakhapatnam. However, Gill did not make the ODI squad, therefore he arrived later.
Hardik Pandya reportedly attended a closed-door session at Cuttack’s Barabati Stadium on Sunday night, according to local media. He was one of the first people to enter the city.
