Star hitters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma stole the show with outstanding batting performances following India’s incredible series victory, which came after a victory in the third and final ODI of the series against South Africa. Virat appeared to be in a different form, with two consecutive hundreds and an undefeated 65 in the most recent game, while Rohit Sharma scored two significant half-centuries in the Ranchi and Visakhapatnam matches.
Even before the series began, former Indian cricket player and commentator Sanjay Bangar stated that he had no reservations whatsoever over the pair’s position. Bangar believes that the seasoned players’ expertise is sufficient for them to find rhythm and score runs in order to give the team their best effort.
The position of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the squad shouldn’t have been up for debate, in my opinion.
Take a look at what they have accomplished throughout the years. Given how frequently they have withdrawn from two forms, it is clear that it might just take a few sessions for them to resume their activities. Compared to younger players, they don’t have to play as many games. You want guys of that calibre once they’re there, hungry, and healthy,” Bangar stated on JioStar Cricket Live.
The former India batting coach went on to say that because of their vast experience, the team management should treat great batsmen like Virat and Rohit differently. He also believed that the pair’s inspirational remarks to the other players must have given the dugout a sense of confidence, particularly following the Test series defeat.
“You must give them space and treat them differently. You can tell the difference when they’re singing. The atmosphere in the dressing room is altered just by their presence. They must have talked to the boys following the embarrassing defeat in the Test series. They gave the entire team a great deal of confidence by helping them put things behind them and play with freedom and authority, Bangar continued.
In order to maintain their current form, Rohit and Virat’s next task will be to play three matches in the forthcoming ODI series against New Zealand: the first in Vadodara, the second in Rajkot, and the third in Indore. Due to the impending Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025–2026, both players might participate in some domestic competition.
