The International Cricket Council (ICC) declared that star batsman Fakhar Zaman was in trouble after he was found guilty of protesting the on-field umpire’s call during the Tri-Series Final versus Sri Lanka on Saturday, November 29 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
When Fakhar Zaman voiced his disbelief over the umpire’s judgement during an international match, he was found guilty of violating Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. The ICC has penalised him 10% of his match fee for the gesture, which has resulted in a hefty fine.
Fakhar Zaman was Pakistan’s fourth and last wicket to lose during the run chase, making just three off five.
Additionally, since this was Fakhar Zaman first infraction in the previous 24 months, a penalty point has been added to his disciplinary record. The cricket player has accepted the allegation and acknowledged committing the offence. Consequently, there was no need for formal hearings in this case.
Fakhar Zaman on-field antics resulted in an official reprimand, a penalty, and a demerit point because the ICC regulations classified this as a Level 1 Offence. The charge was made by the on-field umpires, Ahsan Raza, Asif Yaqoob, third umpire Rashid Riaz, and fourth umpire Faisal Afridi. It was approved by the ICC International Panel of Match Referees, Reon King.
India wins the tri-series.
Speaking more about the game, the Men in Green decisively defeated Sri Lanka by six wickets to secure the summit match of the tri-nation series. The Lankan Lions were unable to reach their whole 20-over quota after batting first, managing a pitiful total of 118. Shaheen Afridi let up just 18 runs in his three overs while taking three wickets, demonstrating his skill with the ball.
With just 48 runs needed in 10 overs, the hosts had already reached 71 for 1 at the midway point, making the chase quite easy. With his undefeated 37 off 34 balls, Babar Azam spearheaded the attack, and the victory was reduced to a formality. On the fourth ball of the 19th over, the chase was completed.
