Alex Carey made a spectacular catch to dismiss Gus Atkinson in the closing moments of the first day of the second Ashes Test at The Gabba in Brisbane.
In the 67th over, Starc produced a hard-length delivery that was aimed at Atkinson’s body. Despite his best efforts, the right-handed batter was only able to get a top edge over the wicketkeeper’s head. After turning around and sprinting at full speed, Alex Carey dove to capture the ball with both hands. But Marnus Labuschagne’s own dive clashed with him as he made the dive and caught the ball.
In the ongoing Ashes, Alex Carey has been in outstanding form behind the stumps.
Alex Carey did a great job of controlling the ball and avoiding distractions. When the catch was made, Labuschagne was relieved and lay on the floor, hugging Carey.
Atkinson demonstrated his ability to be effective with the willow in the previous Test match, thus this was a crucial wicket. This time, Alex Carey genius ended Atkinson’s innings after he had only faced three balls and scored four runs.

Starc’s fifth wicket was likewise secured by the spectacular catch. Before taking Atkinson’s wicket, he had already removed Will Jacks, Harry Brook, Ollie Pope, and Ben Duckett. After a few deliveries, Brydon Carse was defeated by the left-arm seamer.
On Day 1, the Three Lions scored 325/9 in 74 overs at Stumps. Joe Root scored 135 off 202 balls and was still undefeated. On Day 2, Jofra Archer, who hit 32 off 26 balls, will bat again with Root.
