Mitchell Starc creates history with Pink-Ball Test milestone

During the second Ashes Test at the Gabba, Australian star pacer Mitchell Starc once again demonstrated why he is the best bowler, particularly in pink-ball cricket. Early in the day, the seasoned seamer put England under strain by dismissing Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope for ducks. He produced several records as a result of his genius.

England won the toss and decided to bat to start the day-night Test in Brisbane. Nathan Lyon was left out for just the second time since 2012 as Australia chose an all-pace assault in lieu of Pat Cummins.

With a full outswinger that took the edge and went to Marnus Labuschagne at slip, Mitchell Starc dismissed Ben Duckett for a golden duck in the final ball of his opening over. The England batsman sliced the delivery onto his stumps in his subsequent over, sending Ollie Pope back for another duck.

With the wicket, Mitchell Starc now holds the record for most wickets taken by any bowler in the globe with 83 in Day-Night Tests. His teammate Cummins, who is in second place with 43 wickets, is 40 wickets behind him. In addition, Duckett’s wicket made the left-arm seamer the first player in pink-ball Test history to take 20 wickets against England.

Mitchell Starc pulls even with Wasim Akram’s record.

Mitchell Starc became the joint-highest wicket-taker among left-arm pacers after his breakout performance helped him match Wasim Akram’s 414 Test wickets. Compared to Akram, who took 104 matches, he accomplished the record in 102 Tests. England opted to bat first in the second Ashes Test, but Mitchell Starc opening spell, which removed both Duckett and Pope, gave them a bad start. After that, the innings was stabilised by Joe Root and Zak Crawley. The two maintained a solid partnership and drove England to 98/2 by the tea break, despite Australia’s all-pace attack.
