Rohit Sharma Back on Top in ODI Rankings

Ahead of the 50-over series against South Africa, star Indian batsman Rohit Sharma has risen back to the top of the ICC ODI batting rankings. On November 30, the three-match ODI series is set to start.

After missing the second and third ODIs of the Black Caps’ 3-0 series victory over the West Indies, the Kiwi cricketer, who Rohit Sharma dethroned, lost important rating points. He had missed the last two games due to a slight groin tear.

Rohit Sharma, who is already retired from Test and Twenty20 International cricket, was recently named the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 Brand Ambassador. During the release of the calendar for the major T20I event, which will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, Jay Shah, the chairperson of the ICC, made the appointment.

In terms of Rohit Sharma T20I career, he has participated in all nine T20 World Cup editions since the competition’s inception in 2007.

He was part of the team that won the 2007 championship. As a captain at the most recent one in the Americas in 2024, Rohit also carried the trophy. With 257 runs at a strike rate of 156.70, he finished as India’s top run scorer, demonstrating his significant contribution to the event.

Rohit, who was speaking at the ceremony in Mumbai on Tuesday, November 25, said he was thrilled that the T20 World Cup would return to India after a long absence.

“It is wonderful that the tournament is returning to India and that I will be involved with it once more, although in a different role this time around as the Brand Ambassador. After his appointment, Rohit said, “I wish all the players the best and hope they have a memorable time and enjoy India’s hospitality while taking back a lot of memories.”

Following strong performances in the Pakistan T20I tri-nation series between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, Sikandar Raza moved to the top of the T20I all-rounder list for the first time in his career amid other changes in the ICC rankings. Following Bangladesh’s 217-run victory over Ireland in the second Test of the series, Mominul Haque, Litton Das, and Mushfiqur Rahim all saw notable ascents.
