Pant Faces Heat After Guwahati Dismissal

As team leader, you must take responsibility. You've played that level enough. Karim said you lead by example.

Saba Karim Calls Out Pant’s Approach

Rishabh Pant‘s dismissal on Day 3 of the second Test match against South Africa on Monday, November 24, drew criticism from former Indian cricketer Saba Karim. Before giving Marco Jansen his wicket, the wicketkeeper-batter scored just seven runs.

Pant egged the ball to Kyle Verreynne behind the stumps despite his bold swing attempt. Fans were disappointed by the stand-in captain’s strategy after Sai Sudharsan and Yashasvi Jaiswal had taken important wickets.

Karim blasted the left-hander for what he called a careless shot choice, claiming that Pant ought to have taken the strain rather than wasting his wicket.

“This is incomprehensible to you. How would you describe this? It’s really challenging. This is something that Rishabh Pant might not be able to explain for the first time in his Test career. This occurred right after tea. Since you are the team’s captain, you must take on some responsibilities. Your experience playing at that level is sufficient. You set an example, then. Karim stated on ESPNCricinfo, “You lead by taking hits and absorbing pressure.”

“Rishabh Pant’s strategy lacked all of that. Spending some time in the crease will allow you to play your natural game, which I understand. Your entire team is forced into a corner when you play such risky shots at that point in the game. India is currently in a very challenging situation. “They will have a very hard time getting out of it,” he continued.

South Africa tightened their hold on the second Test after reaching 26 without loss at stumps on Day 3 after securing a 288-run advantage in the first innings. Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton, the openers, were undefeated on 12 and 13, respectively.

After knocking India out for 201 in 83.5 overs, the hosts negotiated eight overs in the last session. In Kolkata, South Africa had already won the first Test by 30 runs.
