Ryan ten Doeschate, India’s assistant coach, gave an explanation of the selection of Kuldeep Yadav in the starting lineup for the second Test match against South Africa at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. The team is aware of Kuldeep’s ability to take wickets, according to the former Netherlands all-rounder, who also commended how the left-arm wrist spinner had the South African hitters dance to his songs on Day 1 of the crucial match.
In the second session, Kuldeep took out Ryan Rickelton, and in the third, he took out Tristan Stubbs and Wiaan Mulder. Doeschate noted that by bowling to his plans on the red soil surface, Kuldeep managed to increase the pressure on the opposing batsman.
On the first day, he took three wickets on that surface. We are selecting Kuldeep since we are aware of his incredible strike rate and ability to take wickets. In the press conference held after the conclusion of play on Day 1, ten Doeschate stated, “I thought everyone bowled well, but the fact that he gets overspin, and the red soil, and a little more pace in the wicket, made him slightly more effective in the conditions.”
The finger spinners will enter the picture later. However, it’s a huge plus for him to take three wickets and give us a foothold in the game in terms of strategy and how we wanted to start the first day,” he continued.
Kuldeep Yadav had figures of 3/48 in 17 overs at the end of Day 1.
The Proteas reached 247/6 in 81.5 overs thanks to one wicket each from Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Ravindra Jadeja.
South Africa’s highest scorer, Stubbs, was just one run away from his well-earned half-century. Temba Bavuma, Rickelton, and Aiden Markram were among the players who started but were unable to turn them into significant scores.
After dismissing Tony de Zorzi in the final over of the day, India would feel very confident. On Sunday, Bumrah and Siraj will be playing with their tails up, and the second new ball is only nine deliveries old. Conversely, South Africa would be frantically trying to hit the 300-run milestone.
