Taijul Passes Shakib, Bangladesh Dominate

In the second session of the fourth day of the Dhaka Test against Ireland, Taijul Islam surpassed Shakib Al Hasan to become Bangladesh’s highest wicket-taker in Test cricket. In their second innings, Ireland finished at 88 for 3, with Taijul taking two of those wickets.

In the sixth over, Taijul’s record 247th wicket was Andy Balbirnie, who was caught leg before wicket while playing back to a delivery that was around the right length.

When Mahmudul Hasan Joy took a straightforward opportunity at short-leg, Paul Stirling was likewise caught by Taijul. After Cade Carmichael reached 19, Hasan Murad removed him from the game.

When Mominul Haque fell on 87, Bangladesh had already declared their second innings at 297 for 4. After reaching his century in the first innings, Mushfiqur Rahim was undefeated at the other end with 53.

Bangladesh started the day with a few fours, but Ireland quickly dismissed skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto and Shadman Islam. Before Shanto became Jordan Neill’s first Test wicket after failing to handle a delivery that hopped from a decent length, McBrine had Shadman leg before wicket for 78.

Before Mominul’s wicket signified the end of the innings, Mominul and Mushfiqur contributed 123 in 167 balls while battling the Ireland spinners with lots of ones and twos and the occasional boundary every few overs.
