By the close of the fourth morning on Saturday in the Dhaka Test, Mominul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim had increased Bangladesh’s lead over Ireland to 491 runs. Mominul was undefeated at 79, while Mushfiqur, who reached a century in the opening innings of his 100th Test match, was at 44 at the half.
The game has shifted away from Ireland, who grabbed two wickets early in the session, and may now be headed for a 2-0 scoreline thanks to the fourth-wicket stand.
After playing back to Andy McBrine’s big delivery, Shadman Islam was trapped leg before wicket for 78. He had begun the session with confidence, hitting a couple of fours. After playing 119 balls and hitting seven fours, he would have believed he had a chance at a higher score even though he batted well.
When a delivery from Jordan Neill leaped from a good distance in the following over, Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto was bowled out. Andy Balbirnie, Shanto’s opposing number, made the easy catch at Gully.
Mominul hit a couple more boundaries off McBrine, Gavin Hoey, and Matthew Humphreys after Mushfiqur opened the game with a boundary past mid-on.
The two gradually built up to a significant partnership that is currently worth 106.
Bangladesh had ended the third night at 156 for 1. With 119 runs gained in the opening stand with 60 from Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Shadman was undefeated at 69. His knock of 91 balls included six boundaries before he was leg before wicket by legspinner Hoey.
Wicketkeeper-batter Lorcan Tucker had earlier made an undefeated 75 before Ireland was bowled out for 265. Before both Jordan Neill and Stephen Doheny fell in their 40s, he compiled two fifty-run partnerships with the rookie Doheny for the sixth and eighth wickets, respectively. With four wickets, Taijul Islam tied Shakib Al Hasan for Bangladesh’s record of 246 Test wickets.
