Ahead of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, Sanju Samson is excited to join the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The Kerala batsman-wicketkeeper will have the chance to share the dressing room with the great MS Dhoni, something he has been eagerly awaiting, in addition to playing for a winning team.
Samson feels that playing with MS Dhoni was meant to be. During his time at CSK, he also planned to make new memories with the former Indian captain, recalling their initial encounter.
“Everyone knows the one person there. MS Dhoni was the name of the individual. When I was 19, I met him for the first time and was chosen to play for India. Mahi Bhai was the skipper of the UK tour I took. I spent ten to twenty days interacting with him after my first encounter. I used to see him during the IPL after that. He will constantly be in front of a crowd. Ten individuals there, five here. In a video posted by CSK on their YouTube channel, Samson stated, “I used to think, ‘Okay, I can’t meet him here, I will have to meet him separately”.
The Rajasthan Royals traded Samson to CSK in return for Sam Curran and Ravindra Jadeja.
“I was so desirous. I’ve been invited by Destiny to join him in a dressing room to play. those few months. I can’t wait to meet him and talk to him. Play with him, practise with him, and sit down to breakfast. Whoa! I’m really delighted just thinking about it,” he continued.
The addition of Samson indicates that CSK is getting ready for life after Dhoni retires. After the stalwart says goodbye to cricket, Samson would be the ideal candidate to take over the wicketkeeper-batter position for the team. Dhoni, 44, is nearing the end of his career.
