South Africa’s ODI and T20I teams to play India following the conclusion of the Test series in Guwahati next week were revealed on Friday, November 21. From November 30 to December 6, the Proteas will play the Men in Blue in three One-Day Internationals (ODIs) in Ranchi, Raipur, and Visakhapatnam. From December 9 to 19, a five-match T20I series will take place after this assignment. Cuttack, New Chandigarh, Dharamsala, Lucknow, and Ahmedabad will host these matches.
The ODIs will be led by the seasoned Temba Bavuma, who is presently leading South Africa against India in the Test series. The Rainbow Nation will be led by ace batsman Aiden Markram throughout the T20I portion of the tour.
The next T20I series, according to South Africa’s head coach Shukri Conrad, would be very important for his team since it will allow them to be ready for the T20 World Cup, which India and Sri Lanka are co-hosting next year. Conrad stated that he is eager to see who can fill in for premier speedster Kagiso Rabada, even though he noted that his skills will be missed.
“There are a lot of reasons why we’re so excited about this white-ball trip. Cricket World cited Conrad as stating, “The T20I series in particular is an important opportunity for us to finalise our squad ahead of next year’s T20 World Cup, which will also be played in India.”
“As we move closer to that event, it is imperative that we have clarity on roles and combinations. Naturally, we will miss KG [Kagiso Rabada] on this tour, but as we demonstrated in the first Test victory over India, this group has depth, and building a team with players who can step up when needed is one of our main objectives. It allows a new player to take the pitch each time someone is unavailable. “As we have seen so frequently over the past few years, we want to see more players stand up,” he continued.
Conrad Anrich Nortje, who hasn’t represented South Africa since the 2024 T20 World Cup final against India, has been selected for the shortest format, and it’s great to see him return to the T20I team. Conrad was happy to see the seasoned pacer again.
Anrich’s return to the T20I squad after missing the previous trips due to injury is also very welcome. We’re incredibly excited to work with him because we know exactly what he offers,” Conrad said.
Conrad thinks that the ODI series against India will help them understand where they are as a team, even though the 50-over World Cup is in 2027.
As we create the team in preparation for the 2027 World Cup, these games will provide us with a clear picture of where we stand as a team and what we need to keep improving on,” Conrad said.
