Gill Out of 2nd Test vs SA, Pant Steps In as Skipper

In preparation for the second Test match against South Africa, India skipper Shubman Gill arrived in Guwahati with his teammates. His involvement in the series final, however, is in jeopardy. After suffering a neck injury during India’s opening innings in the first Test match at Eden Gardens last week, the Punjab batsman is currently recuperating.

On Day 2, Shubman Gill faced just three balls before being forced to leave the pitch. Rishabh Pant filled in as captain for the remainder of the match, therefore he was unable to participate. After being brought to the hospital, the 26-year-old was monitored. To the delight of the Indian audience, he was released the next day.

Shubman Gill will travel to Guwahati alongside his teammates, according to a statement released by the BCCI on Wednesday, November 19.

The medical staff will keep an eye on his health in the run-up to the second Test, which starts on Saturday. The board stated that later this week, a decision regarding his involvement in the series decider would be made.

When Shubman Gill arrived at the Kolkata airport on Wednesday morning, he was observed sporting a neck brace. He did not, however, have the supportive medical gadget in place when he got to Guwahati. Although this gave the fans some hope, the most recent rumours may depress them once more.

Shubman Gill is expected to miss the second Test, according to a report from India Today, and it is also uncertain if he will play in the ensuing three-match ODI series against the Proteas. The squad management is reportedly reluctant to take any chances ahead of a hectic foreign schedule. In order to allow the right-handed batter to fully recover before the forthcoming assignments, he may be rested during the ODI series.

Sai Sudharsan or Devdutt Padikkal might be included in the squad if Gill is unable to play in the second Test. The team will be led by Pant, the vice captain. India lost the first Test by 30 runs and now trails 0-1 in the series.
