Mark Chapman replaced Daryl Mitchell, who has been sidelined for the ODI series due to a groin tear, forcing a change in the batting order.
In the second ODI against the West Indies in Napier, which lasted nearly three hours due to rain and a soggy outfield, Mitchell Santner, the captain of New Zealand, won the toss and, despite the hazy conditions, bowled without hesitation.
Santner stated at the toss, “Under covers, when there is rain around, you want to know what to chase,” while confirming three changes to their starting lineup from the first ODI.
Zak Foulkes has been replaced by Nathan Smith, an all-rounder, and Jacob Duffy, who has been rested, has been replaced by Blair Tickner, a fast bowler.
Shai Hope, the captain of the West Indies, stated that he wanted to bowl too, but “will have to put the runs on the board now.” Top-order batsman Ackeem Auguste has replaced Alick Athanaze in the visitors’ only unit change.
“The lower order has been pulling us out of some deep holes; time for the top order to stand up,” Hope stated following the toss.
New Zealand won the first ODI in Christchurch by seven runs, and they will have an insurmountable 2-0 lead if they win in Napier.
