The Rajasthan Royals announced on Monday that, in addition to continue in his position as Director of Cricket, Kumar Sangakkara has rejoined the team as Head Coach for the 2026 Indian Premier League.
Rahul Dravid takes over as head coach for the 2025 Indian Premier League after Sangakkara held the position from 2021 to 2024.
The Royals made it to the 2022 final and the 2024 IPL playoffs under Sangakkara.
Manoj Badale, the franchise’s lead owner, discussed Sangakkara’s appointment by saying, “We felt that his leadership, familiarity with the team, and profound knowledge of the Royals culture would bring the right balance of continuity and stability as we looked at what the team needed at this stage.”
As a leader, we have always had total faith in Kumar. He will be crucial in leading the team into this next stage because of his clarity, composure, and cricketing intelligence.”
In the meanwhile, Shane Bond will remain the team’s bowling coach, and Vikram Rathore has been promoted to Lead Assistant Coach. Sid Lahiri is back as the Performance Coach, and Trevor Penney is back as the Assistant Coach.
