KL Rahul After leaving the Lucknow Super Giants, KL Rahul had a different role in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 with the Delhi Capitals. Even though KL Rahul was being discussed as the team’s possible captain before the season began, he played primarily as a specialist despite scoring 539 runs at an incredible strike-rate in 2025. He declined the deal, though, and finally played for Axar Patel.
Being under fire from the team owners as well as the coaches and dressing room is the primary reason he did not select captain for the lucrative tournament. KL Rahul made a reference to his well-known and infamous encounter with LSG team owner Sanjeev Goenka when he stated that the owners are not supposed to enquire about tactical and strategic applications on the field.
“It feels like you are always being asked why the opposition scored 200 and you scored 120, and why they are getting more spin, when you are captain of the Indian Premier League.” In an interview with Jatin Sapru on Humans of Bombay, KL Rahul stated, “The coaches are aware of this, so they never ask you some of these questions throughout the year.”
KL Rahul was just revealed as one of the Delhi Capitals’ retained players for the 2026 campaign.
Like he did the previous season, he is anticipated to play the part of a specialist batter, batting at several positions and occasionally keeping wickets. The Karnataka cricket player will once again rely on his skills after an outstanding batting season, helping the club earn a spot in the playoffs.
DC almost missed finishing in the top four last year, finishing fifth on the points table. Despite being one of the teams participating in the IPL since its inception, the Delhi-based team has not yet experienced success. DC will try to assemble a winning team in the IPL 2026 Auction with a solid roster of retained players and a respectably large purse.
