Following a brilliant run chase in the second ODI at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Pakistan took a 2-0 lead in the three-match series against Sri Lanka. After 807 days, star batsman Babar Azam made a spectacular comeback to form by slamming an undefeated 102 off 119 as the Men in Green chased down the 289-run goal in the thrilling final over. The Player of the Match award went to Babar as well.
Shehbaz Sharif, the prime minister of Pakistan, too expressed his happiness following the stunning victory.
Since the remaining games have practically become pointless and the hosts have established an insurmountable lead, Sharif congratulated the Salman Ali Agha-led team on finishing the series victory. Sharif described the contest as a fantastic display of the game’s spirit.
“I applaud Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi and his entire team for their outstanding efforts, and I congratulate our national team on winning the ODI series against Sri Lanka. “It was an amazing demonstration of cricket’s unifying spirit,” Sharif commented on November 15 on his official ‘X’ handle.
Sharif also thanked the Sri Lankan team and support staff in the same tweet for carrying on with the series in spite of ongoing security concerns in the host nation. Sharif claimed that by choosing to go with the schedule as scheduled, Sri Lanka demonstrated a wonderful act of friendship with Pakistan.
“I would especially like to thank the management and players from Sri Lanka. Their involvement demonstrates the long-standing friendship between our two countries once more,” he continued.
