Meg Lanning Leads Stars to Win with Unbeaten 90

As the Melbourne Stars defeated Perth by 16 runs in a rain-soaked match in Adelaide, Meg Lanning went into overdrive in her 100th WBBL match.

After a cautious start, the former Australian captain, down on 18, surged into overdrive, helping the Stars to 173 for 4 with an undefeated score of 90 off 55 balls.

In a change that might have suited the chasers, a storm struck, cutting the Scorchers’ chase to 95 off nine overs. However, Stars outscored them, finishing 78 for 8.

Beth Mooney, just off a century, hit three boundaries and reached 14 off six balls before being undone by Kim Garth’s deft slower ball.

Annabel Sutherland smashed Sophie Devine’s off stump to further impede momentum as wickets fell often. Sophie Day took three out of seven from her; the scorchers continued to swing but were never really in the hunt.

When Ebony Hoskin blew a chance at short third earlier this week, Lanning, fresh off a strong 60 in a rain-soaked match, made the most of the life that was provided to her. Before erupting with three boundaries and a six to reach 50 off 35 balls, she strolled to 35.

Before Lilly Mills gave the Stars a late comeback with wickets that denied Meg Lanning the strike in the last three overs, the boundaries continued to come in, with Devine in particular taking punishment.

Meg Lanning, who is no longer playing for his country, stated, “I fell off a cliff there because I couldn’t get it off the square in the last two overs.” However, it was good to be able to continue after I got my rhythm. I know how much training I need to do to be prepared, and I’m having a great time.”
