In a Test series against the West Indies in 2023, Yashasvi Jaiswal made his debut for his country. After hitting a century in his first innings, he got off to an incredible start. The southpaw hasn’t looked back since, collecting runs against top-notch bowling attacks in all kinds of circumstances.
In 26 Test matches, he has already amassed 2428 runs with a strike rate of 66.43 and an average of 51.66. The Mumbai batter has seven hundreds and twelve fifties. He has already scored two double hundreds, both of which were against England.
Yashasvi is aware that he still has a ways to go before he can compete on par with Indian greats like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Ahead of the two-match Test series against South Africa, the opening batsman stated in a recent interview that he will support his strengths moving forward and try to learn from the two previous India leaders.
“Rohit Bhaiya and Virat Bhai have accomplished amazing things in their careers. I am one of the generations they have inspired. I use it as a chance to grow from them and try my hardest. I’ll play with confidence and support my strengths even though I know I can’t replace them,” Yashasvi stated in an exclusive interview with JioHotstar.
After playing well against England in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy and the ensuing home series against the West Indies, Yashasvi will be feeling quite confident.
He amassed 411 runs at an average of 41.10 in 10 innings during the England trip. As India tied 2-2, Yashasvi recorded two fifties and as many hundreds. In contrast, the 23-year-old scored 219 runs at an average of 73 in three innings against the West Indies, finishing as the top run scorer.
Yashasvi will play a significant part in the series against South Africa, the World Test Champions.
With KL Rahul at the head of the order, the Suriya-born player will want to get the Asian powerhouses off to a strong start.
