Shami Becomes Priority Trade Target for DC & LSG

Mohammed Shami‘s performance with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) was unmemorable. The right-arm bowler took just six wickets in nine games at an average of 56.17 and an economy rate of 11.23 after being signed for INR 10 crore at the mega-auction.

He had recently recovered from an injury, though, and had trouble finding his rhythm—a crucial component for fast bowlers. Before the 2026 Indian Premier League, Sunrisers Hyderabad is getting offers to sign him since teams are aware of how important a player he may be.

The veteran Indian pacer is one of the most sought-after names ahead of the upcoming season after attracting significant interest from the Delhi Capitals (DC) and the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), according to a report by Cricbuzz.

SRH will now have to decide whether to release the pacer into the auction pool or trade him away in an all-cash deal.

In recent years, Shami has emerged as one of the IPL’s top bowlers.

Throughout two seasons (2022 and 2023), he took 48 wickets in 33 games for the Gujarat Titans. He took 28 wickets at an average of 18.64 in the 2023 Indian Premier League, earning him the Purple Cap for the first time in his career.

In terms of seam-bowling, Mitchell Starc is a key member of the Delhi Capitals. Dushmantha Chameera and Mukesh Kumar, for example, fell short of their expectations. T Natarajan, however, only participated in one game. With skilled spinners like Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Vipraj Nigam already in their ranks, DC would have one of the most threatening bowling lineups in the competition if they can sign Shami.

Last season, the Lucknow Super Giants had trouble with an all-India bowling attack. Prince Yadav, Avesh Khan, Akash Deep, and others did not make an impression. Shardul Thakur has already been traded to the Mumbai Indians. They would benefit greatly from having someone like Shami, who not only provides the Rishabh Pant-led team with elite bowling but also uses his experience to mentor the younger pacers.
