Vipraj Nigam, an all-rounder with the Delhi Capitals, has reported a woman to the police for allegedly harassing and threatening him throughout the previous two months. After receiving numerous threatening calls and texts from overseas numbers, the 25-year-old cricket player, who had an outstanding first IPL season in 2025, went to the Kotwali Nagar police station in the Barabanki area of Uttar Pradesh.
Reports state that around September 2025, Vipraj Nigam started getting rude and threatening communications. The intimidation apparently began with a single mobile number, but after he banned it, the same person allegedly used many overseas numbers. According to reports, if the cricket player did not agree with her requests, the accused, who was known as Richa Purohit, threatened to incriminate him in fictitious criminal cases.
Vipraj Nigam, a resident of Barabanki’s Awas Vikas Colony, claimed that the harassment intensified after the woman started discrediting him on social media with offensive and made-up content, such as phoney films. The cricket player further stated that he suffered severe mental distress as a result of the accused’s threats against his family and close friends.

An FIR has been filed in accordance with sections 351(3) (criminal intimidation) and 352 (insult and provocation to breach peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in response to Vipraj Nigam complaint. In addition to confirming that the complaint has been registered, Superintendent of Police (SP) Arpit Vijayvargiya said that an investigation is being conducted to determine the origin of the international calls and validate the claims.
The cricket player was cited in the report as stating, “The calls were made from a mobile number at first, but after I blocked it, the same person began using several foreign numbers to harass me.”
Ahead of the 2025 IPL season, Vipraj Nigam was selected by the Delhi Capitals for INR 50 lakh. In his first season, the youthful all-rounder made a big impact by playing both bat and ball. He collected 11 wickets and scored 142 runs in 14 games. His next appearance will be on the pitch for India A in the forthcoming ODI series against South Africa, which begins on November 13.
