Ahead of The Hundred 2026 season, Peter Moores, one of England’s most renowned cricket instructors, will take over as head coach of the Trent Rockets men’s side. Moores is the front-runner to head the Rockets after Andy Flower left to join London Spirit, extending his fruitful relationship with Nottinghamshire into the franchise structure.
The Trent Rockets are going through a change. Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club still maintains overwhelming operational control of the team, but private equity groups Cain and Ares purchased a 49% interest earlier this year. The appointment of Chris Read as the women’s team’s head coach is part of a larger overhaul brought about by this shift in ownership structure.

Notably, Moores contributes a plethora of success and experience. After leading Nottinghamshire to regular results in all formats, he recently secured a three-year contract extension with the county, where he is currently the head coach. Notts has won several championships under his leadership, including the County Championship Division Two title, a One-Day Cup, and two T20 Blast medals. Josh Tongue and Ben Duckett, two England internationals, are largely credited to him.
Moores, who was Flower’s assistant during the Trent Rockets’ thrilling run to the championship game the previous season, was also a member of the coaching staff. He has an advantage in moving into the top position because of his acquaintance with the players, the environment, and the culture of the squad. As a former head coach of England, he has coached the Melbourne Stars and Karachi Kings in the Big Bash League and Pakistan Super League, respectively. After leading the squad to the finals, he recently signed a contract extension with the Stars.
Adam Voges, who is allegedly in talks to become the Rockets’ assistant coach, might join Moores. Voges has helped the Perth Scorchers and Western Australia win numerous championships. His qualification for the position is further reinforced by his extensive relationship with Nottinghamshire, where he played as a foreign professional from 2008 to 2012.
A number of The Hundred’s teams are in the process of deciding on their coaching staffs for 2026. Mike Hussey will coach Welsh Fire, Flower has already assumed leadership of London Spirit, and Shane Bond has been named head coach of the Birmingham Phoenix. The Southern Brave and Oval Invincibles are still looking for new coaches, while Daniel Vettori is expected to join Sunrisers Leeds (previously Northern Superchargers).
