Former national captain and current vice-president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board Faruque Ahmed was hospitalized in Dhaka on Sunday after suffering a heart arrest.
According to BCB authorities who spoke to Cricbuzz, Faruque Ahmed developed excruciating chest pain around lunchtime and was taken to the hospital, where medical professionals promptly conducted an angiography and discovered an artery blockage.
He is now being monitored in the critical care unit after a successful stent implantation later in the evening.
He had not been feeling well since last night. The hospital took him this afternoon. Following an angiography, doctors discovered a blockage in his heart, and that evening, they implanted a ring. “A BCB official told the Daily Sun that he is currently in the CCU.”
Faruque Ahmed played for the national team from 1984 to 1999 and was captain during his playing career. He also served as a national selector twice after retiring.
The current BCB president, Aminul Islam Bulbul, succeeded Faruque as interim president in August 2024 after Nazmul Hassan resigned.
Faruque Ahmed served in that capacity for nine months.
In October 2024, Faruque was chosen in the club category and went on to become the vice-president of the BCB under Aminul.
