A humorous response to India’s Jemimah Rodrigues was recently made by Australian cricketer Beth Mooney during the Perth Scorchers’ Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2025 first match against the Sydney Sixers. Days before the amusing interaction, Rodrigues had jokingly questioned if she would be permitted to travel to Australia after her heroics in the ICC Women’s World Cup semi-final, where she had defeated the seven-time world champions with her game-winning innings.
Beth Mooney and Rodrigues’ teasing occurred a few weeks following India’s stunning victory at the 2025 ICC Women’s World Cup. In the semi-final, Rodrigues’ undefeated 127 helped lead the home team to a record-breaking 339-run chase against Australia, including a vital 167-run partnership with captain Harmanpreet Kaur. After defeating South Africa in the final at Navi Mumbai, India won their first Women’s World Cup.
After removing the Melbourne Renegades from the World Cup, Rodrigues joked that she wasn’t sure whether she would even be permitted to visit Australia before the Brisbane Heat’s match against them. Beth Mooney eventually responded with a scathing retort when playing for the Perth Scorchers.
“Earlier, Jemi expressed concern that they would deny her entry into the country since they had defeated us, but I honestly believed that we would not be allowed to return because we had lost. “I’m glad immigration allowed me to enter,” Beth Mooney remarked.

Because of Beth Mooney wit and sportsmanship, the audience and pundits started laughing.
In the meantime, Rodrigues and Mooney both had dismal WBBL 2025 campaign debuts. The Melbourne Renegades defeated the Brisbane Heat by seven wickets, with Jemimah scoring just six runs from nine balls. She terminated a brief stay by dismissing Alice Capsey at the backward point. However, the Australian opener did not have any influence in her comeback match as Mooney’s Perth Scorchers lost to the Sixers by 10 wickets.
