Suryakumar Yadav’s cheeky dig at Mohsin Naqvi after Asia Cup row

After India defeated Australia 2-1 in the Twenty20 International series, skipper Suryakumar Yadav repeatedly made fun of Mohsin Naqvi, the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Rain caused the fifth and final match in Brisbane to be canceled, but the Indian team won the series trophy. This led to a humorous remark from the captain that was interpreted as a jab at the Asia Cup 2025 trophy issue.

Even though India defeated Pakistan by five wickets in the final, the 2025 Asia Cup, which was played in Dubai, concluded on a contentious note. Following the Pahalgam terror incidents, Mohsin Naqvi, the head of the PCB and president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), made anti-India remarks and the Indian team refused to accept his trophy. Naqvi removed the trophy, locked it inside the ACC headquarters in Dubai, where it is still today, because neither side was willing to give up.

When India defeated Australia in the series, Suryakumar Yadav was asked how it felt to lift another trophy.

“To be able to hold the prize at last feels fantastic. I felt it in my palms when I received the trophy for winning the series. The World Cup trophy for our women’s team landed in India a few days ago. That trophy has returned home as well. “It feels fantastic to be able to touch this trophy as well,” Suryakumar Yadav stated during the news conference held after the game.

The two cricket bodies’ negotiations have finally resumed, according to BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia. Saikia disclosed that he saw Mohsin Naqvi during an ICC board meeting in Dubai, where officials assisted in facilitating communication on the trophy dispute.

“I attended the ICC’s official and informal meetings. Mohsin Naqvi, the chairperson of the PCB, was also there. Although it wasn’t on the schedule, ICC arranged a separate meeting between the PCB chairman and myself during a formal meeting, which was attended by a top ICC office-bearer and another senior official, Saikia stated.

Reports state that both boards are hopeful that the issue will be resolved quickly. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) may eventually receive the Asia Cup trophy in the upcoming weeks, as it is now in the ACC office under Naqvi’s directives.
