For the three-match ODI series against the West Indies, Matt Henry is back with the New Zealand team. Matt Henry is presently undertaking a rehabilitation program to get ready for the ODI and the upcoming three-match Test series after missing the last two ODIs against England last week due to a calf strain.
Blair Tickner, 32, who won Player of the Match twice against England in the second and third One-Day Internationals, is still in the team. In two games, Tickner had taken eight wickets at an average of 12.25. Tickner hadn’t played in an ODI for New Zealand since 2023 prior to that series.
But with Mohammad Abbas (ribs), Finn Allen (foot), Lockie Ferguson (hamstring), Adam Milne (ankle), Will O’Rourke (back), Glenn Phillips (groin), and Ben Sears (hamstring) still sidelined, New Zealand’s injury list seems to be growing. Kane Williamson, who starts training for the Test series starting on December 2, was not selected.
The New Zealand team for the ODIs:
Mitchell Santner (c), Mark Chapman, Rachin Ravindra, Michael Bracewell, Devon Conway, Jacob Duffy, Zak Foulkes, Kyle Jamieson, Tom Latham (wk), Daryl Mitchell, Matt Henry, Will Young, Nathan Smith, Blair Tickner,
Rob Walter, the head coach of New Zealand, praised Tickner and welcomed Matt Henry’s return. “Matt is a vital member of this group and the senior leader of our pace attack, so it’ll be great to have him back around the group for the ODIs and Tests,” Walter stated. “After getting a decent night’s sleep, he will be rested and ready for the big five weeks with the white and red ball.
“We couldn’t have asked for more from Ticks against England,” he stated. “He brought a lot of enthusiasm, and some of the world’s top batters found his pace and bounce to be a real test.
“It was pleasing to see him come in at short notice and perform at that level and that’s a testament to the hard work he’s been putting in away from the group.”
After defeating England 3-0, New Zealand will want to continue their winning streak of 10 consecutive ODI series. The ODI series will start in Christchurch on November 16 and continue with matches in Napier and Hamilton on November 19 and 22, respectively.
