Alyssa Healy out of Sixers’ first WBBL game due to injury

Sydney Sixers captain Alyssa Healy will not play in Sunday, November 9’s Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2025 opener against the Perth Scorchers at the WACA Ground in Perth. The wicketkeeper-batter is recuperating from a thumb injury she suffered on October 30 at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai during the Women’s World Cup 2025 semi-final matchup with India.

When fast bowler Kim Garth was attempting to halt the destruction caused by Jemimah Rodrigues, who was playing at full capacity in the knockout match, Alyssa Healy was keeping up to the stumps. When the Indian hitter tried a late cut on 60, the ball struck Healy’s thumb with a sharp top edge. Despite receiving treatment and continuing to take wickets without assessing the severity of her injury, the Australian captain was observed flinching in agony.

After coming home, Alyssa Healy discussed the incident on the Willow Talk podcast, where she showed off her thumb in a splint and acknowledged that many people had noticed the moment.

Since it’s WBBL season, I frequently sustain injuries of some kind. We’ll see what happens over the following four weeks, but I’m sure a few people saw me take a small knock in the semi-final,” Alyssa Healy added.

Alyssa Healy will not be travelling to Perth for the Sixers’ season opener against the Scorchers, the team subsequently confirmed, calling the injury “minor” but serious enough to need rest. She will be watched over the course of the following week, and if she feels comfortable batting and maintaining wickets while wearing a splint, the team said, she might make a comeback early in the competition.

Lately, Alyssa Healy has struggled with injuries.

She strained her calf and missed Australia’s last two league games. With a strike rate of 125.19 and an average of 74.75, the 35-year-old scored 299 runs in five innings during his outstanding batting performance. Against Bangladesh and India, Healy destroyed captivating centuries.
