Jemimah to Gavaskar: Time to Keep Your World Cup Promise!

Jemimah Rodrigues, the star of the India Women’s World Cup, has transformed her cricketing victory into a musical celebration, and Indian icon Sunil Gavaskar is joining her. On social media, Rodrigues reminded Gavaskar of a lighthearted pledge he had made prior to the final after India’s historic Women’s ODI World Cup victory in Navi Mumbai.

Before facing South Africa in the 2025 Women’s World Cup final, Gavaskar had made a joke on India Today that he would sing with Rodrigues if the women’s team advanced. Now that India Women have won their first World Cup, Rodrigues is ensuring the renowned batter fulfills his promise.

Fans flooded the comments section of her Instagram post, asking Gavaskar to accept the challenge as it swiftly went viral. It’s interesting to note that this is not the first time that Rodrigues and Gavaskar have collaborated musically; at the BCCI Naman Awards 2024, the two sang the traditional song “Kya Hua Tera Wada,” with Rodrigues playing guitar.

Jemimah’ humorous video follows a tournament that changed the course of his career.

India advanced to the final thanks to her undefeated 127 against Australia in the semi-final, which is regarded as one of the finest knocks in Indian women’s cricket history. She was one of the campaign’s most notable players because of her composed demeanor and daring stroke play.

Her contagious enthusiasm on the field and inspirational presence were vital in India’s 52-run triumph over South Africa, despite the fact that she was unable to duplicate similar form in the final, scoring 24 before being removed by Marizanne Kapp. With 292 runs in seven innings at a remarkable average of 58.40, Jemimah concluded the competition.

Regarding India’s campaign, the hosts won three games, lost three, and had one game end in a draw, placing them fourth in the Women’s World Cup 2025 group stage. Shafali Verma and Deepti Sharma led India to a historic World Cup victory in the final with their superb all-around bat and ball performances.
