Ashwin Calls India Women’s 2025 WC Win Their Biggest Ever

The 2025 victory was India's first in 13 50-over tournaments.

Ashwin Calls India Women’s 2025 WC Win Their Biggest Ever

Former Indian cricket player Ravichandran Ashwin has provided evidence for his belief that India’s victory in the 2025 Women’s World Cup is a “even bigger and more colossal achievement” compared to any World Cup India has ever won. India had won the title in 2025 for the first time in 13 50-over tournaments.

He recalled an instance from the 2017–18 campaign in which Mithali Raj and Ambati Rayudu were present at the same location. However, nobody in the crowded stadium was able to identify the women’s unit’s captain at the time.

Since then, women’s cricket has advanced significantly, according to Ashwin.

Ambati Rayudu used to play at the Hyderabad Gymkhana Stadium many years ago. Given that he was already well-known in 2017–18, the stadium was crowded. But no one was aware that the same location was being used for practice by Mithali Raj, who was the captain of the Indian women’s team at the time. Now look where we’ve come. Since it encourages ladies to play the game and think about it as a career option, I would honestly rank this as an even greater and more monumental accomplishment than any other World Cup that we have won,” Ashwin said in a video posted to his YouTube page.

Additionally, the former off-spinner mentioned that the entire title-winning run may be the subject of a full-length documentary. He believed that rather than focusing on a small number of players, the movie should incorporate the contributions of all players as well as the squad’s coaching and support staff.

“This is such an accomplishment that producers and directors can turn it into a film. The manner they tell the story needs to be altered. They are unable to prove that India won due to only one or two players. It isn’t feasible. Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, and Harmanpreet will never stop being discussed. However, a narrative of Shree Charani and Amol Muzumdar and how she defended herself is what I would like to watch. Keep in mind that she wasn’t involved in the plan until June. He continued, “I would want to see such little stories dramatized in an eight-episode documentary.

India won the grand tournament to experience ultimate glory in Navi Mumbai on Sunday, November 2, defeating South Africa by 52 runs. Player of the Tournament went to Deepti Sharma, while Player of the Match went to Shafali Verma.
