Dewald Brevis will miss South Africa’s three-match ODI series against Pakistan, which begins on Tuesday, due to a little strain in his shoulder muscle. He hurt himself on Saturday in Lahore during the tour’s third Twenty20 International.
A replacement for Brevis has not yet been announced by South Africa. While still playing for the team in Pakistan, Dewald Brevis batsman will be recovering in preparation for South Africa’s journey to India later this month, which will include two Test matches, three ODIs, and five T20Is.
Dewald Brevis played every match on the Pakistan tour prior to his injury.
At Gaddafi Stadium, he scored 54 in the second innings, which was his highest score in six runs in Tests and T20Is. With 110 runs in six games, including a top of 49, Dewald Brevis hasn’t had a great start to his ODI career either. Still, he is well regarded. In his most recent ESPNcricinfo piece, Temba Bavuma stated, “[Brevis] can kind of make a bad wicket a good one because that is the boy’s talent.”
The injury to Dewald Brevis considerably weakens South Africa’s ODI team. For the limited-overs portion of the tour, they decided to rest the majority of their all-format players, such as Aiden Markram and Kagiso Rabada, although their team has been weakened by the injuries to quicks Kwena Maphaka and Anrich Nortje. Quinton de Kock will be playing 50-overs for the first time since reversing his retirement, while Matthew Breetzke, who only made his debut earlier this year, may be relied upon heavily as the ODI skipper.
South Africa defeated Pakistan 2-1 in the three-match T20I series, however they drew the Test series 1-1. Faisalabad, which last hosted men’s international cricket in 2008, is the venue for the tour’s ODI portion. After that, on November 14, South Africa will start their tour of India, which will include the first Test.
